1. (Common Noun) A large suberect shrub, from the genus Jasminum, with hairy climbing branchlets; leaves simple opposite, ovate or ovate-oblong, acuminate, grey-fomentose on both surfaces;. flowers white, fragrant, in lax trichotomous pubescent panicles; fruit single, ellipsoid, black, often curved berry. It's available throughout India, in forests upto 1,200 meters above the sea-level. The leaves are bitter, astringent, sweet, refrigerant, stomachic, emetic and tonic. They are useful in obstruction of the bronchial tubes, menstrual disorders, vitiated conditions of pitta, colic, flatulence, cougii,and general debility.
