1. Vegetables(Common Noun) Black nightshade is a fairly common herb or short-lived perennial shrub, found in many wooded areas, as well as disturbed habitats. Its erect, angular, branching stem grows 1 to 2 feet high and may be glabrous or covered with inward- bent hairs. The leaves are alternate, dark green, ovate, and wavy-toothed or nearly entire. The fruit is a many-seeded, pea-sized, purple or black berry. The juice of the fresh herb is sometimes used for fever and to allay pain. The fruit is used as a cosmetic as rubbing the seeds on the cheeks remove freckles. Children extensively eat the mature fruit.
