1. (Proper Noun) an autonomous body which was established by the University Grants Commission in 1994. It was recommended by the National Policy of Education (POE) and the Programme of Action (POA) which laid emphasis on the quality of higher education in India. The major work of NAAC is to assess and accredit the institutions of higher learning, universities and colleges or one or more of their units.
