2. (Proper Noun-Common) Large crested fish-eating diving duck having a slender hooked bill with serrated edges. Of this species the female is called "Chakoi" and the male is "Chakowa". They always go in pairs, a male and a female, therefore in speaking them both, or of the species in general, the compound word "Chakoi-Chakowa" is used. However, the word "Chakowa" is made use of when only one is meant.
There are very small resident populations of this species in north-west Africa and Ethiopia, but the main breeding area of this species is from south-east Europe across central Asia to south-east China. It's is fount to be abundant in North-East India. Till now it is in the list of least concerned. এবিধ ইটাগুড়ীয়া বৰণেৰে হাঁহ জাতিৰ চৰাই । তাৰ মাইকীটোক “চাকৈ” আৰু মতাটোক “চকোৱা” বুলি কোৱা হয়| এই চৰাইৰ মাইকী মতা এহাল লগ লাগি থাকে, এতেকে দুয়োটাৰ বা জাতিৰ কথা কোৱাত “চাকৈ-চকোৱা” ব্যৱহাৰ কৰা হয় । কিন্তু অকল এটা চৰাইক বুজাবলৈ হ'লে সাধাৰণতে “চকোৱা বুলিহে কোৱা হয় ।
প্ৰৱাদ আছে যে ৰামৰ শাপত ইহঁতৰ মতা-মাইকীয়ে ৰাতি একেলগে থাকিব নোবাৰে । কিন্তু স্বাভাৱিকতে মতা-মাইকী সদায় জোৰ পাতি ফুৰাহে দেখা যায় আৰু অলপ আঁতৰা-আঁতৰি হ'লেই “কওঁ ৰাম কওঁ” বুলি মাত লগায়; কোনোৱে কয় যে ই ৰামায়ণত লিখা জটায়ু পখী; ৰাৱণে আধামৰা কৰি পেলাই থৈ যাওঁতে বাটত পাই সীতাক হৰণ কৰি নিয়াৰ খবৰ ই ৰামচন্দ্ৰক দিয়ে; তাত ৰামচন্দ্ৰই সন্তোষ পাই কলিত চৰাইৰ ৰূপ ধৰি “ৰাম কওঁ, ৰাম কওঁ” বুলি মাতিবলৈ বৰ দিয়ে ।
